Nutrition & balanced eating!

Updated: Mar 26, 2023

⛽️ You would never put the wrong fuel into your car, so why would

you put the wrong fuel into your body?

Having a good balance between the right amount of exercise and appropriate nutrition is most important.

Nutrition is just as, if not more important than exercise in the fight for your health.

Our bodies need a whole range of nutrients, vitamins and minerals to support their natural processes and to fuel daily activities. Unfortunately, not all foods are created equal. Some contain unhealthy parts to them and when these are regularly consumed excessively, it can lead to health problems. For example, foods & drinks that are high in saturated fats / sugars can lead to long term conditions such as diabetes and cardiovascular issues. On the other hand, some foods & drinks also contain vital nutrients and if we dont comsume these, it can also be detrimental to our health. While indulging every now and then can be good for us psychologically, we should remember to eat / drink everything in moderation. So try and eat plenty of high nutrient foods rather than foods with 'empty calories'. Unfortunately, the easiest foods to get hold of are often the unhealthy ones but with a little time, planning and organization, eating healthy foods can be easy and cheap.

Things to try to help improve your nutrition:

🍲Plan your weekly meals and prepare them in batches

🥘Have 3 full meals spread out over each day

💻Find healthy & nutritious recipes online

🥑Eat your 5 - 7 fruits and vegetables a day

🏷Look at food labels in the supermarket - green = good, red = bad

🥐Avoid fatty, fried foods - normally beige in colour and with little / no nutritional value

🧂Less salt

🥦Eat more fibre

🍫Indulge every so often because we're not all robots and everyone needs chocolate every now and then 🤤

Top tip: Never call your nutrition plan a 'diet' because it implies your going to go back to how you used to eat when your 'diet' finishes.
